On the shipping side...
I ordered some old eproms once that looked like they were dragged behind the truck and run over. It came with bits in a Canada Post plastic bag with a label. It must have gotten mangled in a sorting machine because it didn't have my address on it an longer. Totally disappeared from tracking but somehow what was left made it. They were enclosed in plastic tubes and I was still able to use them.
Best packing I've ever witnessed was a Commodore Kim-1 I acquired with full documentation, power supply and Kimsi board (sorry, not a 68k). That packing job deserved it's own Facebook fan page
I never keep packaging material unless it's an original box. That one is still packed in the same packing and will remain with me for transport. It was multi-layer rigid styrofoam (like used under external siding) with thin layers from bottom to top (maybe 15 layers ) with custom cut out compartments for each piece. It is phenomenal.
