I'm glad you got it sorted out!

Those MacBooks are nice. They're pretty much the Intel Equivalent of the iBooks of yore.

2006 wasn't the greatest year for them, but if well serviced, it should be fine.

p.s. You might want to upgrade someday to a machine that can run at least Lion, if not Mountain Lion or Mavericks, because of any security concerns (SL is still relatively current though, so you should be fine for a while).
