It's been years but that drive looks familiar. I would check the net on jumper settings but the issue you should address is recapping that motherboard. It won't be dependable the way it is especially if it is as used as you say. I have yet to see an SE 30 board that didn't need it at this point. The first lead in to that fact is the low sound and high burn in you mention.
Also search here or ask Uniserver as he has recapped a few and he may have some insight.

I looked the drive up in more detail. According to Apple, its a supported drive. But only the patched HD SC Setup has been able to work with it. I just changed the jumpers to default, so I will see what happens.

And I think the rest you mashed up from another post? I have an SE, not a 30 and no sound or burn-in issues. But its late, I forgive you. lol I am only up because I am waiting for a geomagnetic storm to kick in so I can shoot northern lights outside while its minus 18 degrees!
