Alternate Means Of Determining Tray Load iMac S/N PowerPC 2 posts Jan 25, 2014 — Jan 29, 2014
Hi,

On my first Mac, a Rev. C iMac G3, I accidentally defaced the serial number sticker before I could record the information contained therein.

Anyway, I was wondering if there are any other places inside the hardware (on a circuit board, molded into the case somewhere, etc.) where I might find the serial. I know that beginning with some models from that period, one could open Apple system Profiler and see the serial number there. However, it doesn't show on this machine, presumably because the serial was stored in PRAM, and wiping that also erases the serial (the PowerBook G3 Lombard and possibly the Wallstreet share this "quirk"), so this method won't work.

I can live with it, but it just kind of bothers me, you know?

Thanks,

c
