Apple is pretty global. If they don't want you booting with non-apple drives they lock them out on all the buses. It's not like them to allow it externally and cause the system to crash when installed internally, plus the Toshiba works with anything. Even if the Yamaha's were no good, the Toshiba is known to work with the 8600/9600.
