What Do You Do With Your Compact Mac?
I have two compact Macs, a Classic II and and SE. Both are currently running and are in great shape with a few minor issues (no sound on my Classic II). I have been using my two Mac's regularly and curious if other people are and if so what do you use your Macs for?
Here's my list:
1) Playing retro-games
2) Note taking + concepts for my non computer related personal projects
3) Currently writing a short story
4) Weekly journaling
5) Honey-Do lists / list of things that need fixing around the house

I love this topic! I have been wanting to ask a similar question.
So far, since I am just getting back into the hobby after a long lapse, I mainly use my vintage computers to help me build a working archive of software that I might want to use on a variety of classic mac computers. (Everything from various versions of system software to utilities like Stuffit, Norton, etc.)
Eventually, I'd like to spend more time building up a library of vintage games. And I'd really like to see those toasters fly again. But I am very interested to hear how others are using their classic machines.

I want to use one of them on display as a clock screen... But I dont know of a program that can fill the whole screen as an analog or digital clock like Windows 3.1 had.

-it was created in 2007, -I have not used it ..the warning on the site about CRT burn in scared me into not wanting to use this. But it may be what your looking for?

Didn't someone just recently post a pic from a demo app that was made for the original Mac that was just a big digital clock on the screen?
Well I have a spare SE which I was going to scrap out as I dont need it, already has severe burn-ins, and its missing its HDD, has its issues, etc... But it would make a great... This...
I write and play games on my SE/30 almost daily. Right now I've been playing a lot of Moria.
Other then playing old games I use my Macintosh to keep a Todo list and write down future game ideas, both using Claris Works. Once a while I connect to a BBS but I never found a good one that would keep my attention.
Moria, ...haven't heard of that one? I will have to try that out.

Moria is A rogue like predecessor of Nethack. Fun stuff! Just be prepared to die often.
I used my se in the past for sequencing keyboards - program was 'mastertrax pro 4' by mark of the unicorn - used it for years

first time I ever saw a mac was in apple cork (the brother again) - it was running dark castle - coming from an oric atmos to seeing dark castle was just mind blowing. The next thing the brother loaded was chuck yeagers air combat - my jaw just dropped

today I don't really 'use' my macs - its more of a ' appreciate them' - I just look at it for a while, turn it on, listen to the hard drives - love that sound. And mess with all the software I can find - trying to figure out what each program is for, how it works etc etc - and of course still play the games. Sub battle simulator.....spent years playing that - indy jones adventures -

who still plays apachie strike - with a good clean mouse you can play that one for hours - then crystal quest......OMG I could go on for ever

any chance of hooking up a laser mouse to a classic mac??? - would trash the high scores on so many games with a laser mouse!!!!!

I loaded this one onto my SE, -spent about 30mins playing then died. I like it, and plan to spend more time with this one.
Much the same here, mostly they hold down shelves in the AppleDisplayUnit™ or elsewhere and stuffing my original owner (SE) carry bag. Periodically I'll work on a couple of hacks I started long ago using borked units I'd found in the street or picked up for peanuts. Looking forward to playing some games at some point and maybe installing some graphics apps on the Plus upgraded (originally a 128k) 16MHz '030 MicroMac accelerated Drexel Mac.

Sadly my SE/30 doesn't support 1080p HD videos...
so it's no goodHonestly, I'm glad I haven't found any porn on my HDs. Well, it must have been quite pixelated already in 384x512 ^_^

I use my Macs for games most of all, but since I recently got my hands on a color card and an accelerator, I will be trying new things like CAD software (I actually use Solidworks at school and I hope I will find a compatible format!), but also Photoshop 4.0 (I can't really tell the difference between 4.0 and 5.0, and 4.0 does everything I like about CS6 on my Macbook Pro).
Once I get the Daystar Powercache working I will also try softPC. I hate PCs (I respect them for their vintage-ness) but some later games were only available for PCs, like Test Drive III. It's a shame it was developed on DOS, it would have been much better on a Mac...
Even in 1990, the Mac was the ultimate machine to have. It could run Mac OS as well as DOS or Windows! Something that Microsoft didn't pull of for quite some time.
PS: Once I'm done with the Color and Accelerator, I will try to get an Asante Mini EN/SC: Internet here I come!
I don't even know if 68kmla.org works on a 68k mac. It would be ironic if it didn't !
I loved the original DOS version of Rogue so much. I still play it under emulation on my PC sometimes. Have been meaning to download the Mac version of Rogue, though it's not really the same (more graphical).
BadGoldEagle: Ironic indeed, due to the security encryption this site uses, it will not load properly on anything that old. Unfortunately, even relatively new machines and software can't understand the internet nowadays, so trying to run a vintage machine on the modern www can be difficult, if not impossible.
I'm sure there are ways around it, but I don't know of any offhand.

With SHA1 being deprecated on the 1st of Jan, anything older than Vista is probably out of luck.
But that's only for encrypted sites?
And this doesn't apply to XP if using Firefox? My understanding is that support for these encryption protocols is largely a function of the browser.

If you like Moria, there is a version of Angband - basically Moria on steroids - that will run on 68k Macs as well. Nethack 3.3.1 is supposed to be the last version that is 68k compatible. I've been meaning to try it out. I find Nethack more challenging then Moria - a lot more quick deaths.
Not long ago i found a small program on one of my floppy disks, allowing literally to undress a lady....
Ha ha! My first exposure to digital porn was on a Macintosh II at the community technical center while a senior in high school. A small vertical window perhaps 50 pixels wide containing the full height of the glorious female form in all her ample glory. A click of the mouse initiated a short dance routine. I remember so distinctly how smooth and life-like the animation was. I have searched, but never have found, the application. Perhaps it's better that way. I'm sure those pixels haven't aged well.

I've been spending a lot of time lately on sim city 1.4 as well as other old games. One thing I would love to be able to do in it is email that would be awesome.
I've been fighting any urge to modernize my classics. I think it would be great for getting large files onto it but I think id get frustrated w/ a 56k modem.
I'm currently building a HyperCard stack we can all use to catalogue our collections I've mostly been making it on one of my Quadra 700s but when I was at my folk's place for Christmas I was using one of my PowerBook 100s. Feels fun to use them 'for real'.

If you can get a shell account on some Unix system somewhere, you can use text-based email there through a terminal program. You just need to figure out how to connect the Mac to the internet or network to access it.
