Help with a iBook G3 16VRAM Troubleshooting 5 posts Dec 4, 2014 — Dec 4, 2014
Hi! I have bought myself a iBook G3 16VRAM. When i start the iBook the cd drive searches for a cd, the hdd spins up and a fan is running. The charger light on the charger turns from orange to green but nothing turns up on the screen. It's just pitch black. Do anyone know what this problem can be?

Best Regards Marcus

Shine a flashlight or stand by a lamp with the light on and see if there is an image on the LCC Screen itself. It could be the backlight is blown out or the inverter is dead if you seen an image on the screen.

Hopefully its the inverter its so much more easier to replace in laptops then the backlight

I tested now to shine a flashlight on the screen and I don't think it's the backlight.

Almost certainly you have cracked solder joints on the GPU, Try squeezing just to the right of the trackpad (Not too hard though, as the hdd is under there!)

My 600Mhz 16vram died because of this, as did my 800mhz and 900mhz iBook G3's

Only problem is, it's rather hard to fix. A shim under the GPU might get you a week or two of life, But A GPU reflow is really what it needs (and even that might not fix it)
