There was an upgrade kit for the 280C to become a 2300C, as some 280C had that red sticker that said "PowerPC Ready" just like the 540c and 190 Powerbooks. This 280/2300C could have been upgraded. Of the two 280s I own, the 280C has this sticker, the 280 does not. Let us know if your friend gets it or not.
