I think to upgrade these you need actual ROMs though, as opposed to just being able to find the OS online somewhere - I have RiscOS 4.39 ROM images for use with the Virtual Acorn emulator but as far as I know there's no way to flash them to the existing ROMs. Buying RiscOS 4 ROMs is quite an expensive business, not really worth it for a free machine :( Do you know which model of RiscPC it is? They are cool machines; I found a RiscPC 700 with a PC card and a load of manuals/discs on Freecycle a while back.

i know you need to remove the physical rom chips to upgrade a risc pc

it wasnt exactly free but not exactly expensive either ( 50 )

upgrading to 4 will mak thing easier but first i need to find somebody who sells them

its a risc pc 700 if i recall correctly

You can get them direct from RiscOS Ltd but they're extremely expensive. I saw a set on eBay once which is what I was thinking of when I said they're quite expensive, as I think they got bid quite high.

Nice find. I haven't used my RISC PC in a while so I think it is time that I dig it out again!

Here are the RISC OS 6 pages

http://select.riscos.com/RISCOS6/index.html

And it is now downloadable, but you have to pay a subscription fee to help further development to get it.

You can also get an open source version of RISC OS 5 here

Be prepared, though. It's like installing Linux used to be before more noob friendly versions like Ubuntu started appearing.
