Unfortunately I tried out the monitor today (after ensuring it was dry), but the tube gave a corrupted picture, almost as though a magnet had been taken to it. It was ghosting and wouldn't give a steady picture, and after a few minutes it started flashing bright red, so I decided to toss it.

Pity really but I expect that must have been why it was thrown out in the first place.

As for the other equipment, I will see if I can FreeCycle it or get some other students to pick it up. Fortunately I am part of a small community of University dumpster-divers here who keep each other informed of what is being thrown out, so nearly every salvagable item is rescued. Some of the techniciens at departments even email me when they are planning to throw away stuff!
