yeah same with my 500MHz Pismo. was given to me by the same guy, and it initially did not boot.
all i really did was reset it, i took out the battery, disconnected the power adapter, and took out the p-ram battery and hit the power button a few times to make sure there was no current stored anywhere.
plugged everything back in and bam! free top-of-the-line G3 powerbook
