Thread
You know, its been so long! I can't believe I haven't checked it out after everything got back up and running. After my cancer surgery I was going to be doing lots of talking on here, and it was dead! I had to rely on... other sites, and sort of got stuck on them.
Compared to one large rumor site, this place just feels like home, since I think I had joined here when I was 14 or 15.
Nice things:
-People actually help each other here
-People are nice, and don't talk down other people's opinions
-If someone types the wrong advice, the next poster isn't a jerk when correcting the mistake
-People give other people good deals because they like helping fellow collectors
-If something is worth $50, there won't be a lowballer talking crap about the seller and the item to save $8.
-And the list goes on.
Thanks for being a great site, and members this is a big thank-you, for probably being one of the most mature, friendly computer-related message boards on the internet and for trying to keep it that way.

I agree this place is such a great community.
It has a warm feeling.
This seems like a place where everyone is your friend.
Places like Mac Forums and Applefritter seem so exposed and public.

Indeed, indeed. This is really the only computer forum i go to, because i'm not mentioning any names, but all the others either:
a) Got too big for my liking (this is the perfect size IMHO
)
B) Became too...well...snobby/upmarketish/pretentious for my liking (i like places like this where everyone is friendly with everyone)
c) Became too Nazi-ish
d) All of the above

This forum has spared me many a boring and eventless night.
Hats? HATS?!?!?!?! Did I hear something about hats?
You know I reckon a 68KMLA hat would be a really cool idea...

These hats are becoming a 68kMLA icon, sort of like the modern day Feets. Now I feel like I sparked a revolution...

As I remember it, the secret project you were working on at the time wasn't a hatThese hats are becoming a 68kMLA icon, sort of like the modern day Feets. Now I feel like I sparked a revolution...

When the hats get mentioned on LowEndMac articles then I feel that they've passed form being the insane rantings of some English dude to being a cultural icon
Hence why I said "Sparked It"... you coined the term.
But yes, it's now somewhat of a cultural icon... the "Mac Hats". One place this could apply is on the G3/G4/G5/Mac Pro, where there's 2 "Feets" and the top handles are "Hats".

Indeed I do, sir. :/
I've always Loved this place. The original site of the 68kMLA pretty much marks the beginning of my online life.
How has everybody been?
How has everybody been?
your avatar scares me...
I WILL EAT YOUR SOUL!
I WILL EAT YOUR SOUL!
I think I know which site you are referring to. I ditched that place years ago because the people there were way too far up their own butts. Too much snobbery and pulling rank, as well.Compared to one large rumor site, this place just feels like home, ...
Much better people here.
Thought I recognised your name, from the Snitz forums archive... welcome back!I've always Loved this place. The original site of the 68kMLA pretty much marks the beginning of my online life.

Things haven't been too bad... users shuffling in and out as they lose and gain interest in the 68k platform. Personally I can't stand using the 68k's anymore, but I don't have the heart to leave this great community. I'll just stay around and contribute what I learned while I did have an interest in them.
Yea, if anybody here was a fritter critter around here a couple years ago, I created a thread asking about girls, and Tom Owad locked it, because it went sour, but a couple of hours before he deleted it, it really cleaned up. He still deleted it tho. Then Another thread was created, to bash the mods about it, and it turned into an all out war. I PM'ed him to appologize, but...AF has never been the same since. It just went down hill from there. The MLA is different tho, its got a great community feeling! So you ruined fritter?
Sounds like it wasn't all just your thread gobabushka, more like it was that thread that snapped already high tensions. I'll bet a reshuffle of the forums (and maybe a reshuffle of staff) would see that forum running again.
yea, but i doubt tht it would happen, its more of a question and answer forum now then its old roots. kind of sad, tht was my first site tht i was really big posting on
forums grow and change...
I think they just lose focus when new members show up to chat about things offtopic all day.forums grow and change...
i dont kno, i think tht the mla wouldnt be the same without the offtopic banter. Without it we wouldnt have sh=uch things like hats and feets
I agree, thats what make the MLA such an open community.i dont kno, i think tht the mla wouldnt be the same without the offtopic banter. Without it we wouldnt have sh=uch things like hats and feets
i want a hat... I think some doggie hats, or doggie sweaters would be amazing as well.
By community you mean a bunch of teens who blabber about stupid things that has nothing to do with what the founding members of the forum cared about, sure.I agree, thats what make the MLA such an open community.i dont kno, i think tht the mla wouldnt be the same without the offtopic banter. If 30 grandmas showed up and flooded the offtopic section with talk of knitting that would be their little comunity, how would the rest of you like that?
im sry i didnt want to start an argument
There is nothing wrong with idle chat, I just think its better to do it on IRC then to use the forum for it (where it gets saved for the rest of time, or untill the next crash).
I would rather see a comunity built around people who have and tinker/use 68k macs then a community where people show up to a 68k forum to talk about teen current events. That is all I was trying to say. There are plenty of places to go for idle chat, and very few for 68K related discussion.

This is an interesting topic...
Well, I do think there is a limit to how far off we should get.
If something in the world is, should or will happen we should be able to talk about it. But yes, most things should be discussed in IRC

I don't think the emphasis should be locking out all off-topic discussion. The fact is when there's excess discussion in the lounge, there's less in the 68k forums, and that could well be due to the current inactivity in the vintage Mac market.
So while blocking off topic discussion except for IRC may work, it has the potential to damage the community.
Finally...
I've seen several times in the IRC channel where users have suggested the channel be ONLY 68k discussions. So forwarding the off topics from here to IRC cause problems there, and the only solution is to move off the 68kMLA altogether just to talk about something else. It's been done before (often with our Car discussions, for example).
You may all resume topic now.

In case anyone couldn't tell, I tried veering off-topic for the heck of it, just to see if anyone noticed.
But nonetheless, I think people who come to chat about off-topic stuff all day are OK, as long as they are doing it in threads that aren't about something 68k (or computer) related.
I personally don't even know how to use IRC, and have hardly *ever* been in a chat room, so I don't know how everything works with those, I suppose.

Thanks iMac and LCG.
Oh, as for off topic banter, I've always believed there should be at least somewhat of a mix. THe MLA did this from the beginning with this forum and from what I see, it has always worked. Without the chance to discuss the bs from normal life at times, it would make a board too sterile. It would become more a place where people check in when they need something and check right back out when done. Here in the lounge, everyone can express themselves much better and we build the friendships that help a community grow. Those bonds that are built are also what prompts us to let the imagination flourish with creativity for all the great projects that you've seen posted in the other parts of this board and the archive that iMac saw me from.
Lol, now you're making me wonder who is still around LC. Does Trash still come here?Whoo - an original!!!!! Welcome back!!!!!I've always Loved this place. The original site of the 68kMLA pretty much marks the beginning of my online life.
