Back in 2000 i got given an IBM WDS-80 that i wished to use on my LCII. The thing had never seen a Mac before and was formatted as a DOS volume. Anyway i used Lido to format the drive for use in a Mac, after which i popped a fresh install of 7.5.3 on it. Worked fine.

Lido is a third party app and can format just about any drive, so give it a go. Just when you do the install, make sure that the installer is set to not update the hard drive's drivers. Good luck.
