Just got an LC III
Tonight I went to my LUG and we cleaned up the cupboards 
LC III 8MB 160MB with keyb/mouse and b&w portrait monitor... just a bit yellow but boots fine.

Just found this nice forum when checking for the specs.
I'm thinking about porting Haiku (MIT licenced BeOS clone) to it.
I had a power mac dusting around but 68k is much l33ter =)

Great! They're great little boxen, though you should probably upgrade the memory to the max, and perhaps a larger HD. I would love to see Haiku on it, so go for it!
Sweet! My very first Mac was an LCIII...man..i loved that computer...and still do, i still have it today.

One-step case openning... some PCs should learn from that.
There is a PDS ethernet card inside but the connector seems to be AAUI, I'll have to find/make an RJ adapter I suppose.

Nice little computer! I used them for 3 years in high school. If the date was set for 1956 you'll probably have to replace the PRAM battery on the motherboard.
Yes seems a quite standard 24v battery. =)
24v?!? The battery is a 3.6v Lithium (1/2-AA size).
Oh right, I was too quick, I saw a 4 somewhere in the reference and it seemed like those photo cam batteries. No reason to use 24v in those hw

All of this talk about tasty little LC IIIs, has motivated me to pull out the old LC III and load a bunch of games on to it.
I've been going through my old Mac floppy disk collection for the better part of the afternoon and installing old games on to my LC III. I did a fresh install of System 7.5.3 last night, and I'm now in the midst of loading up its internal 1GB hard drive with every little public domain/shareware game I can find.
It seems a shame to have this little box sitting idle in the corner. It'll make a great little time killer machine. System 7.5.3 boots up really quick. The hard drive can hold more old games than I'll ever play, and I can stick this machine just about anywhere for those moments of boredom that just can't be satified by anything else.

Sadly its not that simple...the thing about A/UX is that it accesses hardware directly in ways that the standard Mac OS does not, and therefore is a lot more fussy on what it will and will not accept.
Exactly, so some drivers might not work correctly, but it should at least try to boot...
... which was down yesterday when I checked it.
