1) Are the contacts on both sides of your 1MB SIMMs clean or oxidized?

2) Which bank did you put them in?

3) If you put the original RAM back in and it works without the chimes of death, the you may have bad 1MB SIMMs. This is true even if they once worked fine in another machine. Static kills. But of course, if you can put those 1MB SIMMs back in that other machine and if they work, then that would be evidence the 1MB SIMMs are okay. In such a case, you just just try putting the 1MB SIMMs back in your SE/30 again. It could be oxidation that you cannot see with your eyes and putting them in a couple times may be enough to make good contact.
