itunes strange behavior

I recently ripped some CDs on a PC as mp3 files.....when I open them with itunes on my mac they don't copy to my library like other Mp3s that I have on my ibook. I also tried dragging these to my library but they don't copy either. These files do play with quicktime. I have OS X 10.4.10, ibook G4, itunes (the latest) 7.3? Well thanks for any help!!

and do they play with itunes ?

sure they are mp3 files ?

yes......they open with other players but they won't be added to my itunes.....
