Please help ident this unusual chip on a 128K Mac

Nothing unusual at all. The exact name escapes me, but its part of being upgraded to a 512k. People could do two things, upgrade the RAM or swap boards.

To install Apple MIDI Manager you simple drag the file "MIDI Manager" into your Extensions folder and restart your computer. This file is in "Midi Manager Folder" inside Ballade folder.

Additionally you can drag the file "Apple MIDI Driver" to your System folder if you plan to use an external MIDI device, AND/OR you can drag the file "OMS MIDI Manager Driver" file to your System folder if you plan to use OMS in paralell with Aple MIDI Manager and also let OMS to manage external MIDI devices.
"OMS MIDI Manager Driver" is on MacTron Xtras folder inside Ballade folder.

You have to put "OMS MIDI Manager Driver" file in to your System folder (not Extensions folder).
Restart your computer and then configure your connections (with OMS apps also)  in PatchBay.

Which means the board may or may not be original to that exact machine at all. So while it was once a 128k board, its not a 512k. But some upgraders had several on hand ready to swap in. So when someone came in, they would pull the original board and swap in an already upgraded replacement.

You can downgrade if you want. But rumor has is the original Apple-logo branded RAM chips are pretty weak. So if you downgrade you will likely end up with new chips. You will have authenticity in RAM size only.

I thought i understood midi connections but obviously i don't.

I am really struggling with "hearing the music".

In my OMS studio my keyboard is connected and i can hear it when i select "test".

Then when I launch Ballade no music.

I am running the midi and audio thru a Audiophile 2496 USB to capture both audio and midi using my iMac G3.

The Info, Tips & Trics here...is no where because it's not linked.

Could you give us a clue where all those components are hand filed.  I seem to recall that if you dropped a file on the System Folder it will place it were it should go.  No luck here.

it can be made back to an original 128k,  but would need that mod removed, and the ram would have to be changed back as well.

i happen to have replacement 128k ram here.

My mistake, Apple Midi Manager was parked in the wrong place in System folder.  I finally realized that  when I launched Ballade and it did not show signing into Apple Midi Manager. For some unknown reason I thought it should be in the Extension folder with Midi Manager. Another clue i missed was when I launched Apple Patch Bay there were no virtual midi cables between Ballade and Apple Midi Manager. Whereas if the Apple Midi Manager and Midi Manager are placed correctly Ballade will make the correct corrections.  Now we hear music. Thank you for your subtle clue.

Indeed, it sure is great to "play" this app: I've forgotten how great it is especially in today's time of the DigitalPerformer, Cubase, Finale, Sibelius, or Apple's attempt at Emagic's Logic ( god, they can't even get the GarbageBand right ). OK, that's my rant for the day.

Are there hot keys to hit in the transport window to for example "play" ?  stop ?  rewind ?  Tried space bar: no go. Just hit the  buttons you say!.

I've used it from the beginning of times...
Now a days is just a basic destructive audio editor. It support 96Khz but no 24/32 bits audio. No ASIO, no VST, no much... LOL

Boards early 1984 are real 128 K, upgrades needed this "2nd floor"

Late 1984, Boards 128 and 512 are the same, only some chips more, so, no more "2nd floor", the design is included!

I need your assistance please: Is there anybody knowing which chip is the ram "F5" , I've got error code "Sad Mac 040001" with this kind of 2nd generation 128

and I would like to upgrade a 128K (design 630-0101) to 512, could you have any indication of the chips I do have to replace?

I could ask to uniserver, but I  realised that shipment  from France is same price as a new machine...

Well F5 is the grid location on the board - row and column. Like the game Battleship. Look at the edges of the board and you will see these indicators. As for the exact chip, they can be purchased new but I do not have that information.

Nice. Week 11 is a pretty early unit. Even with an upgraded board, it would fetch a decent price on the market.
