I think you'll find that the update enables the airport itself to participate in ad-hoc networks. That is that you'll be able to see a rendevous enabled airport pop up, and be able to access it by name etc.

All traffic will pass over it seamlessly in bridging mode, however I think rendevous may use the 10.x.x.x address space (I don't remember, so don't flame me) and so there may be a little update with the routing side of the airport.

Incedentally, a little birdie told me that the old graphite basestation doesnt contain enough RAM to run the newer software. This is why we are unlikely to see airport updates for the graphite other than bug fixes.
