Receiving a very large file online
A friend wants to send me a 300 mb file via the internet. How can we do this?
I've looked into ftp, but do not know how to set it up so that he doesn't have access to all of the files on my mac.
Any suggestions?

Setting up an ftp server isn't hard, but how you go about it varies drastically depending on which version of the Mac OS you're running... Mac OS 9.x or Mac OS X?

FTP: set up a new user for your friend under the users preferences panel.
next, check the "allow FTP access" box under sharing preferences.
give him your IP address, his username, and password and have him drop the file in his public folder.
if you're behind a firewall, open ports 20-21.
Hotline or Carracho: set up your own hotline/carracho server and give your friend an account so he can upload the file. this is nice if you plan to swap even more files because it's fast and if he drops the upload, he'll surely be able to resume. however, you'll have to do a google search on how to set this up coz i don't know.
