Web problems through Airport Software Base Station
While I wait for the activation of my new DSL line, I've been trying (just out of curiosity) to share the dial-up connection wirelessly. The Powerbooks I'm using are running OS 9.1 and 9.2, with Airport 2.0.2. After more trouble than seems necessary, I have managed to get one set up as an Airport Software Base Station, connect to the Internet, and retain the ability to use the web on that computer (originally, Explorer would come up with connection errors, but for some reason Netscape 4.7 worked fine).
However, when the other computer links up, it is unable to browse the web. It has some ability to download information, as javascript forwardings and frames are loaded, but no content beyond that appears. Furthermore, I am able to use Telnet (so I can browse using Lynx...) and AOL Instant Messenger just fine. I also can resolve IP addresses using a net utility.
So the wireless access is there, even to some degree with the web protocol. Does anyone have an idea what might be preventing the web connection from working properly? I'm using third party WiFi cards (Orinoco Silver), but I don't expect that is the problem.
