I've tried searching the forums and didn't find anything on these, so here goes:
1. I want to connect my iMac (DV 400) and my G4 (dual 500) using a crossover cable to simply transfer files and play networked games. The problem is, it won't work in OSX and I don't understand. It worked under OS 9 and I don't really see any real problem with doing it on OSX, but it doesn't seem to want to work under OSX. Both machines are running OS 10.1.5. and I'm pretty certain I've configured everything correctly.
2. I'm using a dial-up connection to connect to the internet. Using the G4, there are problems dialing. If I start up and then connect without opening any programs, it will connect. If I open a program then dial, it won't. If I have disconnected (after a successful connect) and then try to re-connect, it will fail. It will not connect if I have woken the computer from sleep. I have to restart each time if I want to dial-up which is very frustrating. On a successful connect, the connection log is normal (starts with 'Dialing xxxxxxx' where xxxxxxx is the number) and the sounds are all fine. When it fails, the first line is always: 'Dialing .' and there are no dialing sounds (a tone and then the UK BT your number was not recognised sound). The comp just seems to forget the number even though the networking prefs are all correct. What's the problem? The iMac does not have this problem.
Could these two probems be related? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
