About Bluetooth

Please post threads about Bluetooth in the Peripherals forum from now on. Bluetooth is not a networking technology (it amounts to something like wireless USB), and doesn't belong here.

Tooki, I have to disagree here. I think that bluetooth has far more relevance to networking than to peripherals. I agree that it amounts to wireless USB, but since the majority of its applications will directly involve networking....

Just my $0.02

If discussion of ADSL modems is relevant in here, then I think bluetooth is too. Besides, there are a number of bluetooth vendors offering pico lan solutions, such as http://www.pico.net/.

I guess perhaps you're trying to keep bluetooth together in one forum ? It doesn't bother me, just an observation.

While it has been marketed by some as a networking technology (just like USB and FireWire have), Bluetooth was designed to complement 802.11, not compete with it. It was not designed for networking, it was designed to allow wireless connection of peripherals. Networking is a specific field, and Bluetooth doesn't fit in it. I suppose that if you want to discuss actual Bluetooth networking, you can do it here, but things like Bluetooth troubleshooting do not belong here, and future such threads will be moved to the Peripherals forum.
