yes, all of that is much simplified under Jaguar/10.2
turn on file sharing on both macs and a simple cmd-K in the finder shows all the macs available on the network, without using appletalk.
also, once you turn on printer sharing on the computer hooked up to the printer, that same printer shows up automatically on print center on the other computer. again, no appletalk here.
