I do think that for most people, the new (snow) base station is superior. However, use on a college network is one time when the old one is sometimes superior, since it can link AppleTalk to the WAN port (for printing or file sharing).

Actually, I do suspect that updated AirPort will come out in the not-too-distant future, because many companies are now selling hybrid 802.11b (11Mbps) & 802.11a (54Mbps) wireless systems now. It stands to reason (especially since Apple buys the guts of AirPort equipment from another company, Lucent, anyway) that they will follow suit.

So if you can afford to wait, do so and just go buy a long ethernet cable!
