No, it didn't happen on your G3. My Pismo's reception is WAY better than my TiBook's.

One possible help: turn the TiBook's orientation

I have found that just one floor below the airport at home even rotating the Ti by 30 degrees will vastly strengthen reception in this location.
Requires some experimentation.
