Airport 4.0.6 firmware problems?
I have airport problems.
I used to have a Pismo.. no problems with it. Then I purchased a Quicksilver and sold the laptop so I installed the airport card into the G4. So I've been surfing the web with no problems since then.
Then the 4.0.6 firmware comes out. So I thought I should update it. Well I go to update it and it updated fine etc.. but now all of a sudden I have connection issues. (Its the snow airport by the way) Anyway, there are times when I go to internet connect and I get on.. its says im connected to the internet.. I click on explorer, mail, or iChat, and the wheel just spins. It acts as if I havent connected to the internet and can't find any content. IChat doesnt open, mail just spins looking for mail, and explorer says looking for yahoo.com (my set home page).
So then I go to the airport admin utility. Try out the configuring of my base station thinking something went wrong. I enter my password and it says "an error occured and that it cant read the configuration file." So I tried to reset it which eventually led to me getting internet access.
But ever since then things just seem flaky. Its always connected and worked before the 4.0.6 firmware update. Now I just have the problem where it may say Im connected but in actuality my internet apps cant find any internet content because I dont have the access that internet connect tells me I do.
Is it possibly a software problem.. Do I need to update airport software along with the firmware? I am running 10.2 by the way so I wouldnt think that would be the problem. By the way what version of airport software does 10.2 come with and where can I find it in the OSX system folder?
Any ideas peeps.. well after struggling for a couple hours Im online. Only got online after unplugging the base station and restarting my quicksilver.
Thanks for any help.

you can do a hard reset of the base station, which will wipe it completely, then upload the firmware. This should take care of any funny business. Follow the instructions carefully, and I recommend you upload the firmware from OS 9, not OS X.

You have to unplug your Airport put a paperclip in the small hole on the back side and hold it there while you plug in your airport. They hold it in for 10 seconds or so. Something like that anyway, It's in the manual.
yeah, definitely check the manual or Mac Help for detailed instructions. not hard to do, really. I've hard reset white base stations lots of times. just be sure to re-upload the firmware.
ok, i have the same exact problem, i even hard reset and reupdated it, and same exact problem. i think ill do a hard reset this time and leave it at 4.02, cuz if it aint broken, dont fix it
