Direct Sharing with PC on ethernet (SMB?)
I am on a school ethernet network. I want to share files in both directions with people I know on the network. Is there a way for me and my windows friends to set it up so we can directly connect to each other? My brother can do it at his school somehow but i don't know how he does it. When i go under "connect to server" in the finder i get all sorts of servers. some have names like "Dorm" or "Local", "Students". I read in another post about mounting a PC drive via SMB (but i don't know anything about that) and for the PC to mount mine. I am running Jaguar and most people on windows are running XP.
If you're using Jaguar, I think compatibility with Windows sharing is built-in and turned on (visibility of other computers and ability to access, that is. 10.2 by default isn't sharing).
if you want to share with Mac and PC users, open up System Prefs and click the 'sharing' tab. Now check-mark the sharing services you want to enable.
