the only PCMCIA card 'officially' supported under
OSX is the Cisco 350. All the others
would use the opensource driver (1.0.0b5
wroks under 10.2).

true Airport cards can be had for $60
or so.

As to whether your iMac has an internal
slot for an Airport, I don't know.

You might want to consider a Wireless
Ethernet bridge and jack it into the
Eth. port on whatever and have it
connect to your friends setup.

You will probably NOT find a USB wireless bridge for the Mac. Not yet at least.
