How I got my OSX B&W G3 on my wireless network
I searched and searched for instructions on how to do this and found nothing. I hope this isn't a repeat of something somebody else has already said, but I would have found it useful.
There are no options.
Well, there are. But they eluded me for so long. The first thing I tried that worked was a Linksys USB adapter connected to my WindowsXP laptop, shared the internet connection, connected a cat5 cable between the two and we were up.
The limitation was that port forwarding didn't seem to work the way they said it would in the documentation. Surprise. And since I'm running Apache, Senmail, UW IMAP, QPopper, SquirrelMail, and QTSS, internet connection sharing was not an option.
Next try, connection bridging with WinXP. This also was rought with problems, but it appears that connecting to the Mac via SMB from Windows before bridging solved my problems. Requires Jaguar obviously, and precludes the laptop from connecting to the internet.
But then I found the ultimate solution. It even works without the laptop in the middle. It's the Linksys WET11 (or Wet Ones
. No drivers necessary, just plugs directly into your Mac's Ethernet port.

Cool I'll have to tell my Friend about this.
Unfortunately for us B&W owners, AirPort under OS X is not supported. For years I was using Proxim's (formerl Farallon) SkyLine 11 MB Wireless PCI card and PC card to connect wirelessly under OS 9, and everything worked great. But no go under OS X.
That is, until Cisco's Aironet 350 Series gear. And they just released the drivers for Jaguar which was previously not supported. New drivers here: http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/table...ronet-utils-mac
I have the Cisco Aironet PCI card and adapter in my B&W but have yet to test the new drivers as I've moved on to a QuickSilver PowerMac. But I'd love to hear how they work.
