You don't need to ditch anything. Buy the router and connect it to the DSL modem (through the router's WAN port), then connect the AirPort Base Station to one of the ethernet ports (not one labeled Uplink). Tell the ABS not to distribute IP addresses any more, and set it to its bridging mode-now it will "bridge" between the wired portion of your network and the wireless part.

Depending on the particular hardware you buy, follow the manufacturer's instructions for setting it up and connecting it to your printer. Since you seem to have had the printer connected to the PC originally, this should work just fine.
Install whatever drivers are needed for that particular printer to work on a network-HP has such drivers for most of their printers.
It may sound like a lot of work, but it isn't really all that complex; just take it a step at a time.
