duplex, router, g4...ugh Networking 3 posts Sep 25, 2002 — Sep 26, 2002
I've tried to enable full-duplex on my Yikes G4 (pci graphics) many many ways in OSX. I've edited the /System/Library/StartupItems/Network/Network file to have the 'en0 media 100basetx mediaopt full-duplex' and then had that same thing in /etc/iftab and other things. I've tried it from the command line, but still it doesn't work. I have an SMC Barricade (smc7004awbr) wire/less router and it will connect to my IceBook (dual usb) but it just won't recognize the g4 for some reason. has anyone else had problems like me?

Justin
Apple recommends setting all NICs to auto negotiate speed and duplex.

If you try to hard-code a NIC to 100-full, you HAVE to also nail the switch/router port to 100-full. If the switch is set to auto, but your Mac isn't, you won't get a reliable connection.
thanks for that, but the only reason i want to try that is because i can't get my router to work with my g4. It works fine with my IceBook like i said earliar and i even switched the cables. the port that is plugged into the g4 from the router has an led that should be a solid green but it just flashes green showing me that it isn't connecting to the g4 or something along those lines. I'm going to call SMC tech support again sometime tonight (whenever i have an hour to wait ) and see if they can help more or maybe if the g4/router is flawed.
