IP address and Airport

I am using OS 10.2.1 and an Airport base station. I would like to know what my IP address is so that I may host internet gaming via TCP/IP. When I look in the network pane it shows the IP address for the local network and not the one for the base station. How do I find out the true IP addy? Even if I knew the IP addy would the person trying to connect hit the base station and not be forwarded to my computer for connection?

Isn't that on the "Internet" tab of the Admin Utility?

Try:

http://www.whatismyip.com/

It'll tell you the public IP address that other people see you as, not the private, internal address you're using on your internal network.

You'll still need to setup port mapping in your base station, though, so that incoming connections are properly routed to your machine.

Thanks for the tips. It wasnt filled in on the Internet pane of the admin utility but I did get it on the website. Now I need to figure out how this port mapping works.....

Man, Camelot! That link is great! And fast, too.

I don't have a lot of experience connecting an AirPort Base Station to various ISPs (ok, zero experience), but I was expecting that an ISP-assigned dynamic IP would show up on the bottom half of the Internet tab in the Admin Utility. That is indeed far more trouble, even if it is accurate, than clicking on one simple link. Bravo!
