Updating Brushed

I think the thin line on the titlebars would be a good idea Max.

I'm not too sure about the putting in a thin line. I've never missed the top when trying to drag a window and I really like the look without a divider. I think it makes it very clean and sharp looking.

Given anymore thought to putting the center highlight into normal windows like people were doing to your theme before? It does require the use of Metalizifier to work in some Cocoa Apps, but it's sooooo worth it!

Here's how I've customized your brushed theme. "Real" Apple Menu icon. Transparent black menus. Widgets and scrolls from Aluminex. Center highlight on MenuBar and all windows Titlebars along with Metallifizer.ape. Toolbar buttons from MMXMercury. I love it!

mrtew it's AlumiteX not aluminex. All I can I say is that I love the very first brushed theme. Too bad I lost it .

If I could I would take the old brushed theme and replace the aqua widgets with the widgets of the recent brushed theme and I would whiten all the widgets simply cause I don't want an all gray theme...and because I think white "glowy" plastic widgets would look better.

Those AlumiliteX widgets look tight in that theme.

(To keep from any misunderstanding; tight= Very nice, rad ,cool....)

Mrtew - I wont include the menu highlight, I think it looks better when the surface is the same.
I agree that the AlumiteX buttons look cool! Should i make some similar buttons for the Brushed theme? I have to remake them anyway to be consistent with the new Metal buttons.

I have also been using brushed with modifications, I have the highlighted menu bar and window title bars, and use metallifizer also, but since updating to 10.2.3 I have switched to aqua for the first time in over a year, its actually a nice change, but when the brushed for 10.2.3 is finished, I'll probably come crawling back...

LOVE the transparent black menus - do any of the theme changers support "options" (ie subtle variations in themes that themers could include as preferences for those themes - widget colors, menu colors etc?)??

When resource switching is supported in it will be possible to make a base theme and then have other extras.rsrc with just a new menubar (for example) so that you can mix your own theme. I'm just hoping that the themeswitch makers come up with a good standard format.

It would be cool if it was possible to have that basic theme and then radiobuttons/checkboxes next to it, for example:
(�) Use brushed menus
( ) Use transparent grey menus

( ) Use devided titlebars
(�) Use rounded titlebars
( ) Use squared titlebars

(�) Use sunken aqua titlebar buttons
( ) Use brushed titlebar buttons

And thememakers could bind those options to the corresponding extra resources.


That way I could include all the variations I would like. Right now SmoothStripes have 6 variations for example. That could be done like this instead:
( ) Use rounded opaque inactive titlebars
( ) Use squared opaque inactive titlebars
(�) Use rounded titlebars (transparent)
( ) Use squared titlebars (transparent)

(�)Use transparent menus
( )Use opaque menus

(�) Use Blue GUI elements
( ) Use Orange GUI elements
( ) Use Green GUI elements

- Would that not rock???!
If someone made a format like this, I'd be happy to convert all my themes all over again. This would allow the end user to have great control over the theme!

Exactly!! This is where themes should go, to really allow the user to customize, right now having separate distributions for the same theme just to change one aspect seems a poor way to implement.

Radio boxes allowing prefs within themes (such as aqua's graphite vs blue) would be incredible....

Really? You're weird! I like my brushed metal to shine! What a freek. :-] You should try it again. The only problem I ever see is in the About this Mac window where you can see the right end cap for some reason.



I don't know. Doesn't matter to me! I've got mine! :-] I used the same buttons for both regular and metal windows. They look like different sized resources but you really can use old buttons for the new metal windows and they look fine. You probably don't even have to remake yours, just resize the metal resources when you copy the old buttons into them.

For people that don't use Metallifizer, that will give a "incomplete theme-feel".. But you can easily modify it for your own use

I don't ever use classic, but I started it up tonight mostly out of boredom and while the platinum looks OK with Brushed, it kinda got me thinking whether there was a brushed theme for OS9. I don't remember one, but if there is I'd like to know about it. Has anyone ever seen one?
