Forums bigger than MacNN?

MacNN Games 50 posts Feb 6, 2003 to Dec 5, 2004
I got into a Mac vs. PC argument today and for some reason the guy wanted to know what kind of "puny" forums the stupid Macs had so I showed him MacNN and it's enormous amount of posts. He was silented

Just wondering, are there forums that are bigger than MacNN? Usenet doesn't count. They don't have to be about PCs.

stile's got a fairly big one... (ohhh matron!)

sorry, even their 'access denied' page is obscene
[H]ard|Forum: Registered Members: 17,768 | 178,030 threads in total | 1,739,086 posts in total

and this is after GenMay got cut out of it( it had 100k threads by it self the day before they were forced to cut it)
SomethingAwful is pretty big:
Quote:
There are currently 1108 forum members and 33 wanna-be members on the boards.
The largest amount of SA Goons online at once was 1982 on 09-05. Wow! There are 10,563 registered members.
They have made 40,368 threads and 863,369 total posts.
IMHO, size doesn't matter. Quality of discussion is paramount for me. That quality goes down every time I see another "iDVD and FireWire DVD-R" or "EyeTV Vs. Formac Studio" topic started.

My favorite spot doesn't report member counts, DealMac. Next is MacNN, then AppleInsider, then Apple's Discussions site.
Anandtech is kinda big. Around 100K registered users. They've written a couple articles about their forum and web servers. Pretty interesting. I gotta say, I can only remember their forums going down once since the move from ubb a few years ago.

There used to be a forum called Delphi that was huge. It was more of a meta forum though. Their interface was so unbelieveable bad though. I guess the discussion groups on lycos and yahoo, etc. Don't count either.

I'd rather have a smaller group (of intelligent people) to communicate with.

Know any?
*cough*
MacNN is very small compared to lots of forums. I know www.tournament.com has singular forums which have more posts than the whole of macnn, and 1 post in that forum every 30 seconds. For the whole website, probably 1 post every 4 seconds.
So how many registered members, posts, topics, etc are there on Macnn? Whats the rate of post count per minute/hour?
I'd like to see a way to look through a list of all registered MacNN users and be able so sort by join date, post count... etc, like I can do at MacAddict's forums.

Gibberish.
you're right, for once. that was gibberish.
MacNN is #39 on BigBoards, behind (possibly most notably) Neowin.net, a Windows-oriented site.

The funny thing about Neowin is that in their icon/wallpaper/theme forums, the majority of the ideas are trying to mimic OS X in one way or another.

edit: that's #39 in the Computer-related section

You could say that MacNN is the Walmart of all Mac forums.

...or are willing to tackle our fellow MacNN forum members and inflict pain for a $29 APEX DVD player?

There are 45654 registered members. Of course, about 50 of those are old Ca$h aliases from way back when .

As for post and thread counts, you can add those up yourself from the front page.

As for the posting rate, I honestly have no idea.

Man some of those forums have a lot of junk... how does someone actually keep up? I find arstechnica being too huge... each section is its own world.
Neowin, although they USED TO BE Window-oriented, has tilted ever-so-slightly towards the Mac a bit. It's small, but growing.

Looks like about 1.785 million posts or so as of right now. Not too shabby

50 million pages served per month.

I don't think Slashdot quite qualifies as a forum. You can comment on posted stories but there are no forums like this one there (thankfully).
