Have any ideas on how to improve Aqua?

I'd have to say that beyond some minor cosmetic fixes to Aqua (and more for my selfish theming needs/wants than any visual inconsistencies in the system running Aqua as Apple intended), I have fewer complaints about OSX than I ever did about OS9. I honestly think for the most part that people are just adverse to change when they complain about the differences between OS9 and OSX. After working in OSX for almost 2 years I'd never go back and find it improved in almost every way over OS9.

Just the stripes. Get rid of 'em and I' d be happy. (Yes, I use a different theme.)

And options to control the level of eye candy, menubar blinking, etc.

Who wants a goddamn "Launch" menu option? If I do terminal crap, I'm doing that in the terminal! And for godsakes you aren't launching FILES, you're launching programs to open files.

Secondly, what are you moving connect to server ETC into the Apple menu for? It's pretty damn obvious that belongs under the Go menu.

Basically, you've got way too many options in that menu, and soooo many of them have nothing to do with overall system, instead they relate to the Finder.

I'm pretty sure hitting cmd tab or cmd shift tab until I reach the application of my choice is a lot easier than going to a menu, reading the menu, picking something.

Disclosure triangles for Get Info own you. How else are you going to display 2 options at once?

while OS X needs some improvement, you must really think about what changes imply.

I think alot of those would be pretty nice to have as options but not as standards. Except for the Apple menu, that was way too much bunk in one place.

The Launch menu option would allow to open files, applications, urls, run common unix commands (like find or locate), etc... from one spot (this increases efficiency) and it would also have a keyboard command for speed.

The Go menu does not remain on top like the apple menu, which means that you cant access those options without switching to the Finder, its just faster.

Too many options? Did I mention its customizable?

If you have more than 10 apps opened( I normally do) hitting cmd + Tab and cmd +shift + Tab can get tiresome.

Disclosure triangles create too much screen clutter, it takes up space and on a 15 inch display thats a lot of space.

yes a command click or option click would work well to do that.

Now what i want is if you select as an example 3 folders and click a disclosure
triangle then those 3 folders and only those 3 should show contents.

Also a key press with click + key combo to open all folders AND Sub folders so i can see
it all fast.

You mean something like Command-Option-Shift-Right Arrow...? (Hint, try it.)

exactly. When you double click on a file, are you launching it? NO. When you find files, are you launching them? NO. This is a metaphor based system, and your lack of metaphors relays a true lack of background thought.

Secondly, we had a customizable Apple menu in OS 9, and it sucked. It was as bad as the windows start bar. It could be done properly but that is what the dock is for anyway.

Lastly, icons in the Apple menu is imho an interface turn off.

Here's a definition of the word 'launch' it might help (look at 1b or #3).

What happens when you open a file? Events are set in motion(or are initiated 'started, put forth, etc...') that cause the file to be displayed on the screen.

When you find files you also launch(initiate) a set of events(in this case a command is launched/called) within the OS to find the file.

The apple does not 'suck', its logical efficient and is located on the top left corner which means it abides Fitt's law so its faster to access than the dock.

Oh, and check out the website I you'll notice that one of the suggestions o improve OS X is to have a way of turn all these options on/off, if not that defeats the whole purpose. The user shouldn't conform to the OS it should conform to them. You like turn it on, you don't then turn it off. Its about options, and choice.

I think just little things
like making the icons in the dock infinately deep, and maybe a tad of extra spacing between the close and minimize traffic lights.

GET RID OF THE DAMN STRIPES.

Also, it would be nice to be able to turn off all animations, transparencies, shadows, etc for those of us with crappy Macs..
