That's a great Idea Might do that this weekend, Hummm nead a UK stamp pic.
MediaMan, if you do, could you put it on the web so I could download it.
By the way the website for the blue stamp image is the royal mail one - go to the business shop

Okay, I have the mail stamp and have rotated it in photoshop. If anyone would turn this into an icon for me I would really appreciate it. If you e-mail me wdale (at) cwcom (d0t) net I will e-mail you the .psd file
Edited e-mail address on advice from MediaMan, thanks for the tip!

I scaned in a stamp, 2nd class is the blue one (Apples icon is even the correct dimensions, so it can scale proportionally) but the 'Hello from Cupertino' postmark is extremely difficult to recreate where it goes over the eagle. I thought ther was one on Apples site, but the only one is the one on the icards, and that is both slightly different (it has the date under a smaller apple, faces the wrong way and is red) and is heavily compressed. Does anyone have an idea where there is a good version of this?
Also does Mail genarate the icon with the red dot dinamically? As I can only find the plain version in the package?

2 things...
1-It should say "Hello from England" or something like that
2- All the "teeth" should've been there, nice and neat.

the "hello from england" im with you on, but the missing perforations is an intentional design feature on the stamp. click the earlier link again and check it out.

is there anyway you could post just the stamped part of that? i would like to put it on another icon
not from the UK but the icon looked nice so I tried it. looks too small compared to the other icons in my dock, you might want to play around with the size a bit.
Mediaman, If you managed to do the 2nd class by scanning it in rather than using the image off the website could you possibly do a red 1st class stamp version (there isnt an image on the royal mail website for the red stamp)
2nd class version looks really good, can see a lot of people in the UK using this mail icon.

I get the 'hello from England' postmark thing I will try it. I think it neads something more Apple centric though (like the Cupertino.CA), any one any ideas?
The problem with doing a 'First class' version is that at the moment the Royal Mail is using special metalic looking gold stamps for first class instead of the usual red. Also red may stand out a bit more as blue is more of a OSX color.
See this page for Fist Class, you notice how the individual stamp is bright yellow, but the rolls are the more traditional red.
I noticed the 'looking smaller' thing, I don't know why it is like this. The stamp is the same size as the Apple version?
here is the photoshop file for any one who want's it. (you may have to do a 'save as' on the link)
Note: the 'off icon' part of the postmark has to be darker then the 'on icon' part, it's the transparency that makes it look the same shade. I also have an Illustrator version (of the postmark) if anybody wants.

Excellent icon just installed it and like the "britishness" thing about it.
If anyone could do the first class stamp could they also do the new mail red blob in blue inorder to maintain the contrast?

As per requests, the replacement icon has now been updated.

The stamp is now slightly bigger, the postmark now says 'hello from Stockley Park.UB' Apple UK's HQ address. There is also a selection of colours, Traditional Red, an attempt at the Gold colour of modern 1st class stamps, and the 2nd class blue (matches the OS a bit better)
Changing the 'blob' where the un-read messages number appears is a bit more difficult, any one know where it is?

Look inside Mail.app --> New Mail Badge tiffs
Loaded the first icon no problemo but when the mail icon with the hello from stockley park came about i thought i'd change to that one.
Problem is when i replaced the first icon with the latest one it didn't work. All i get is the generic app icon (the one that looks like a sheet of white paper with a pen, brush and a ruler forming an 'A').
Unfortunately i deleted the original mail icon when i first installed the postage stamp.
Is there a workaround for this? Or can someone e-mail me a copy of the original icon please.

You nead to change the name of the icon you want to just 'app.icns'. I gave them different names jut so I could package them together.

Here's my Canadian contribution
Made using the newest 'regular' stamp (I dont think a 2003 has been issued yet, so this is 2002). We have too many others to count, just like our quarter designs

Anyone care to tell me how to replace the Entourage icon with this British stamp while retaining the badge for new mail? Many thanks.

Since they're in .icns format, if you want to apply them to Entourage, you'll need to use an application such as Iconographer to open them, Copy Icon Family (Control-Command-C) and paste over Entourage's icon in its Get Info window. The badge will still appear when new mail arrives.
Hi,
How can I install this excellent UK stamp icon? I got my first iBook a few weeks ago, so i'm not quite sure how to open Mail.app to change the icon. Will the red dot work with it, or do I need to modify something else for that to work with the new UK icon?
Cheers,
Nick

To install the mail icon is easy, it's really just a matter of moving a few files, and yes the dots still work.
Mail app cannot be running as you do this.
First Control (right if you have a 2 button mouse) click on the Mail icon & select 'Show Package Contents' from the menu.
navigate through the window that opens, through 'Contents', 'Resources'.
In here find the 'app.icns' file and copy it somewhere safe, as a backup.
As there is 3 different syles of mail icon in the .sit file, you will nead to alter the name of the one you want to use to just 'app.icns'.
replace the original 'app.icns' file still in the Mail app package with the new replacement.
To get the dock icon to update to the new one you need to drag mail app out of the dock and put it back in.

Woohoo, that worked fine, looks well nice!
