That's nothing new -- communists have been sponsoring war protests in this country since the 1930s.

If you've ever seen a Chinese-govt. sanctioned "protest" you'd probably feel differently about this. I've been to several here in the US. The one common thing is the government official with the camera, taking pictures of who's there and who isn't and the five or six other govt. officials taking notes on who's being the most patriotic. The citizens who show up do so for the same reasons that Iraqis cheered Saddam Hussein during parades.
