Thanks for the link (I read his History Of Warfare). A calm, reasoned perspective.

So they underestimated the degree of resistance - no one ever guaranteed that there wouldn't be miscalculations. It's still a pretty impressive operation. I think the real test will be whether they win the "hearts and minds" aspect. It's simply too early to draw conclusions.
