When anti-American war protesters descended upon Fox News Channel's Manhattan headquarters yesterday, the No. 1 cable news network used its news zipper to fire back.

In red neon letters that crawled across the building from the Avenue of the Americas to 48th Street, the peacenistas were taunted with barbs like:

"War protester auditions here today. . . . Thanks for coming!,"
"How do you keep a war protester in suspense? Ignore them" and
"Attention protesters: The Michael Moore Fan Club meets Thursday at a phone booth at Sixth Avenue and 50th Street."

"I thought I'd have some fun with it," Fox zipper-writer Marvin Himelfarb told the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz. "I couldn't resist."

I would say Fox News is alternative news. They are fair and balanced.

Not to put words in Lerk's mouth, but yes.

Every news source has a bias. How that bias plays out depends on where you are relative to the particular bias. This is one of the fundamental reasons why one should not rely on any one news source.

I, for example, primarily use the CNN website because I like the amount of information and the layout. I do not pretend that it doesn't have a bias. I also listen to NPR (morning edition and ATC). In between Fox and CNN, NPR is particularly balanced.

I also like the interplay between the Guardian and the Telegraph. Between the two, I find good reporting. Each has a bias, though.

But I tend toward the liberal side more often than not, so take that as a reference point.

I agree.

Fox News IS fair and balanced...to me. CNN and the rest are fair and balanced to others.
