So far as I know America isn't turning "facist" by imposing religion. If anything the separation between church and state is stronger now than it has been at any other time.

I always get a kick out of people who see a controversy and think the country is turning either facist or socialist (depending upon ones political view)

Don't get me wrong. There are things to worry about. I was very upset at the way DEA and other organizations would impound homes, cars and other materials of suspected drug dealers without full course of law. Often the people would be found innocent but it would be years before they'd get their property back (if at all). A lot of people were coming down hard on that prior to 9/11. My worry is that with the much needed security bills some of these abuses of property by the government may increase rather than decrease. There are other such items in the country.

But overall, I'd consider myself safer from the government and have a better chance of exercising my rights now than I would in the 1960's, the 1930's or any time in the 19th century.

While we, as a populace, need to remain vigilant, there are too often cries of "the sky is falling." People need to take a deep breath, take a step back, look at the big picture, and then try to improve the system. My own view is that the country is a work in progress and we've not yet attained the ideals that the founding fathers caught a glimpse of when establishing the nation's foundations.
