"The Peace Sign"

I just heard on the news that Warner Bros. is changing the poster for a movie of theirs that featured a girl with an American flag shirt and holding up two fingers in a "V" because of the possible political ramifications.

However, before that became a "Peace" sign, the "V" stood for "Victory." And through that victory, peace was a byproduct.

I mean, there is a famous picture of Winston Churchill holding up two fingers, and he meant "victory" not "peace, dude."

When did this WWII symbol for victory get changed into a symbol for peace? Vietnam?

I don't know...ask Warner Brothers.

I saw the poster and didn't take it as a political statement. I just thought it looked like a dumb teen movie!

Last I checked, it still meant victory in a lot of places, Japan among them (so when Mario gives you the "peace" sign when you beat a level, that's not really what he's trying to say).

When did it come to mean peace, anyway?
