While you are correct, you may be surprised to see cable news ratings in comparison to broadcast news ratings. This is for the week of March 17-23:

"CBS Evening News" Rather: 5.9
Iraq Coverage FNC: 5.6
Iraq Coverage FNC: 5.5
Iraq Coverage CNN: 5.1
Iraq Coverage FNC: 5.0
Iraq Coverage FNC: 4.9
O'Reilly mentioned it the other night - they have steadily been gaining ground. Last year in Janurary they passed CNN and now they are gaining on the network news.
