This is a story made for the movies. It's got a little of everything.
I still love a couple of his quotes which sounds much like how many of the people are reacting when the allied forces liberate there town.
"America came here to help us," he said. "The Marines are brave men. They have been gentle with the Iraqi people. They are taking out Saddam Hussein. For that, we're grateful."
�In the future when Saddam Hussein is down,� he said, �I will go back to Nasiriyah.� He said he would not worry then about the Fedayeen. �When Saddam Hussein goes down, I�m sure they will go away.�

Yeah, but theey HATE THE US!!!
Means nothing. Its no secret that the majority of Iraqis hate the US. really. Would you want your country invaded? Even if it means getting rid of Saddam Hussein? You may, but many of the Iraqis wouldn't.
The Iraqis are also fed a constant stream of anti US propaganda, and after a certain amount, they tend to regard it all as fact, simply because they haven't heard any conflicting opinions.
