This story [BBC] just strikes me as funny. I think they left a section off the story:

PM Blair said that the new bombs are part of psychological operations. "We plan to humiliate the Iraqi Republican Guard in to defeat. We feel this bomb clearly makes the statement, 'You are so overmatched, we can defeat you merely by throwing rocks at you.'" When pressed about concerns that the decision was budget driven, Blair's only response was to laugh. Experts speculate that this is part of a new arming initiative for the Allied Forces, and expect that armies would soon be deploying 'sticks' in the field. According to one expert, "The old 'names' systems just weren't hurting the enemy, and rumor has it that these 'stick' and 'stone' weapons systems are pretty good at 'breaking bones,' so it looks like the Army is going with it." |

That is hilarious!
I was thinking though...you could get heavier, and probably cheaper weapons if you just dropped laser guided Chevy Suburbans from the sky. It would have that All-American feel and environmental wackos would be happy too, less SUVs! EVERYBODY'S HAPPY!

Hell, Chevy would love it! The Pentagon would probably pay them $1.5 million per Suburban.
I assumed this was an April Fool's day prank when I first saw it..
No joke, aside from my commentary
. After all, guns are just glorified rock throwers. In all honesty, I like the idea. It's cheap, low risk to civilians, and as long as it's effective, I'm all for it.

These bombs are quite effective, and we ought to be seeing footage in the coming days. I had links to video showing what these puppies can do, but they're on my Mac at work.
Regardless, they're *quite* potent -- just image 500 to 1000 pounds of concrete hitting the Earth at hundreds of miles per hour.

If these weapons were good enough in the middle ages, why not now?

Run away!
The next big thing in the war on Iraq will be the re-introduction of the Trebuchet

Just think about it, it's such ancient technology even Saddam's troops probably wouldn't know how to fight it.
