Kneejerk responses of the right
OK, I'm sure the ones more to the center and left have their own but lets collect them all here.
Here we go:
1. Any critic of W = "but Clinton"
2. Any critic of Israel = "but chapter VI and VII"
3. Any mention of oil and Iraq = "but France and Russia also want their part"
4. Any mention of Pax Americana and imperialism = "but Europe did it to"
5. Any mention of France = "but surrender and we saved your ass"
6. Any mention of US bypassing the UN = "but Kosovo"
7. Any mention of ICC, Kyoto and land mine treaty = "but our sovereignty"
8. Any mention of kneejerk respons = "but not using it correctly"
9. Any mention of ....................
Feel free to add to the list and start the flame war.

Conservatives... nice people I love'em. They are intelligent and witty, never have sex before marriage and have God on their side. Wouldn't wanna mess with'em.

<kneejerk>Hey now, I had plenty of sex before I got married. Well, not plenty, could have had much more...
And I'm not religious...</kneejerk>
to be fair, there's plenty of kneejerking on both sides.
the difference would be....not sure you'd hear a conservative make the same above observation.

Sure you would. I totally agree with you. I was just worried if I had said it, I'd be accused of a kneejerking "you too!"
Several of those "kneejerk' responses are simply asking people to be historically consistent. E.g. 2,3,4, and 6. Some others (e.g. # 7 "but sovereignty") aren't so much kneejerk as simply raising a legitimate point of disagreement. Do you have a problem with disagreement, or must every discussion be on your terms?
Really only 1 and 5 could be called kneejerk in any way. But I guess that puts me into your self-serving catch-all of #8.
By the way, your diagram is wrong. The right foot (indicated by arrow 4) clearly should connect with the hammer wielding leftist's gonads.

What do YOU think?
topic generating a kneejerk response = anything the Left doesn't want to answer to or discuss because it might just be inconsistent or embarrassing for them: Clinton, Kosovo, religion, abortion, yada yada yada.
Just remember: everything is the fault of the 1) rich, 2) successful, 3) white majority. And Lefties are simultaneously the punished few voices crying in the wilderness and the grassroots. If you keep that in the mix, you can write the Leftie playbook whenever you're ready.

I read that too, I think he was mixing up answers that are givin a lot as knee-jerk responses.

actually, there's been a lot of conservatives in these forums telling liberals what liberals think (incorrectly I might add).
good for the goose, good for the cockroach...er...or something like that.

This phenomenon sort of interests me. I have no idea why so many people -- and on this bulletin board, it's generally people self-identified as "conservative," although that doesn't seem to have a consistent meaning -- spend such a great deal of their time worrying about what "liberals" might do or say or think. (I would wager I can readily find plenty of examples from other threads and sites in which the roles are reversed, yes.)
Take, for instance, this statement by one of the posters above: " If you keep that in the mix, you can write the Leftie playbook whenever you're ready." I'm thinking that this is indicative of at least a mild paranoia (the "lefties" have a "playbook"?), possibly due to isolation and/or social ostracism during early adolescent development. The subject finds solace in identifying himself with one group in a political debate that otherwise bewilders him. Because he has nothing in particular to contribute to the group other than his enthusiasm, he makes the most of it, reminding his fellow "conservatives" that he is adamantly for whatever they're for (whatever that is).
It seems to be a need for identity -- established group identity that is defined by what it is NOT. Why not develop your own point of view, based on what you believe SHOULD BE?
Ultimately, it's not going to be a very satisfying way to live your life, simply snorting and wheezing at imaginary enemies. Be a conservative, be a liberal, or whatever, but for your own sake, man, snap out of it and try to at least be a grown-up. ...

You struck a nerve, except that you're projecting (there's a good buzzword for ya).
Not that it will matter to you, I'm sure, but my views were developed over many years of introspective study, observation of the world, and interaction with people of varied backgrounds and cultures on a personal and business level. They have nothing to do with psychobabble buzzwords or some need to belong to one group or another. That's the last thing on my mind at any given time.
Why you need to belittle me and question my behavior and/or motives is beyond me. Simply say that you don't agree with ME PERSONALLY, or whatever. That should be enough.
As a "grown-up," I deal with the results of ideological breakdowns every day. I'm constantly helping people rebuild lives which have been shattered by denial and mass delusion (such as "victim" status). I see the consequences of "feeling" one way and "acting" another, and it ain't pretty. I also see the consequences of the constant Leftward push in this country -- broken homes, poorly-educated generations, stifling poverty, confiscatory taxes. There is such a thing as the right way to do things and the wrong way to do things, and the leadership on the political Left would have us doing the wrong things in a hurry. If you choose to ignore that, that's fine. I won't call you a psychopath or anything if you don't agree.

2. As I have said in many other threads it isn't OK to hide behind laws when the morality is wrong. Some of the things that Israel has done is morally and legally wrong. The inconsistancy you are talking about is with the people who take shelter behind different chapters of international laws. Also you know as well as I that the US government has been very active in vetoing many resolutions that would force Israel to follow the international/humanitarian laws your citizens(most) will fight to uphold.
3. The difference is that two countries(one even more than the other) wanted to go to war partly because if that, while the others, Fra&Rus, didn't. In Europe and if you will liberal minds going to war is the last resort, not something easily brought up as means to an end. It is better to go the political way rather than the use of force, but that is something the superpowers and the biggest wolf in the pack will always have a hard time understanding.
4. It is in no way possible to compare something Europe did since 1550 to WWII. And it is not right to do something just because someone else did it first. That is kindergarten stuff and you know it.
6. Big difference that even you must see. It was a massacre and a bloodbath going on at that time. It didn't happen 10 years ago or even 25 years ago. It was something we could stop in the making. There is no such thing in Iraq at the moment. We didn't do anything at the time they were slaughtering the Kurds or Iranians. Why the sudden rush?
And no not every discussion must be on my terms. But I'm really tired of being called a liberal, leftist, inconsistant and etc from your minions. I'm tired of some of the extreme right conservatives always shifting the blame on Europe, I'm tired of you taking up things that happened 50+ years ago at least, I'm tired of you taking shelter in the meaning of laws when you know they are wrong. I'm tired of the nationalism you have shown and the condesending tone you take every time you begin to discuss things here.
You love to take up laws and old similarities when you know the moral is wrong, you love to bring up the nationalist card when your government is shredding your rights just so you can sleep better, you love to point the blame to others when you know that your government is doing something wrong. And no, I'm not anti-american. I know quite a few americans and have family in NY so I know that all americans aren't brainwashed by the nationalistic trend in the states right now.
If you can't see it, move away from the states for a couple of years. The distance can open your eyes.

What the hell is an "ideological breakdown"?
I have very little patience with the more egregious claims of "victim" status myself, but exactly how are you "helping people rebuild shattered lives"?
As for knee-jerk right-wing responses, "confiscatory taxes" is right at the top of the list. The countries in this world that have the best standards (and quality) of living are those "evil Socialist" countries whose tax rates are often over 50%. They somehow manage to have thriving economies, too.
The big difference between them and us is the rampant waste and catering to special interests that are found in US government programs. And I include our good old "corporate welfare" in the category of special interests.
That darling of the right wing, "deregulation," has given us the S&L scandals, EnRon, and the end of independent radio stations (with the consequent dearth of good music which is the REAL reason for the RIAA sales slump).
Finboy, please tell me in what way I'm liberal, leftist, commie and a treehugging hippie. Or at least one of the above.
And could you also tell us in what way you work with "the results of ideological breakdowns every day. I'm constantly helping people rebuild lives which have been shattered by denial and mass delusion (such as "victim" status)."
Please elaborate.......

The wit, the brilliance, the arguments. WOW!!!!!
Ignore the latter part of my post if you like, but at least try to answer the first part. I'll be glad to discuss that as long as you try to do it on an intellectual level..........

you mean the 1st half where you reiterate your position on the last year's worth of political threads? No thanks. With respect, there is a search function.

Only topics I see that are being done like that are the obvious conspiracy theory ones. You know the ones that have little grasps on reality.

Lame personal attacks are just as much an attempt to sidetrack discussion when your points are shot down and your ignorance exposed ("your" as a general term, here)...

Love to discussem.
Love Clinton. Would love to go drinking with him. Clinto was just Cool.
Was in favour of action against Serbia as were most lefties. Was just very uncomfortable about the action after the abomination that was the first Gulf War.
No fear of discussing religion as I am an Atheist. But you just can't win an argument about something that doesn't exist with someone who is deluded into the surity that it does despite not having a single grain of proof.

No but they have two things.
1. A more grass-roots idea of what democracy is for and about.
2. And world-view that is a lot kinder and humane than anything I've seen you advocate on this board.
no. not really.
