It is a difficult project to "define" conservativism or liberalism. There are just too many positions. For instance "Log Cabin Republicans" are a homosexual organization. Yet they are in the same "right wing" label as Rex Reed and his "moral majority."

In a recent discussion someone defined neo-conservatives as that movement which postulates a kind of objective set of innate values we ought to use as our measure. A kind of 21st century version of "natural law." The only problem is that this then would include folks like Noam Chomsky who I doubt most neo-conservatives see themselves in agreement with.

One could go on, but in my mind the positions are just too broad to be helpful.
