To try and word it gently. When you are having sex, a woman takes a fair bit longer than a man to orgasm. It doesn't magically happen at the same time.

So after about 3 minutes of pumping, a man has the potential to orgasm. He loses his erection, and therefore can't really continue on with the act very well (not always the case, but usually).
