Pirates of the Caribbean= DAMN GOOD MOVIE!
Wow! It was good! I read that it was pretty good...but...DAMN!
I mean, no, it wasn't deep or meaningful or changing my life or anything, but it was DAMN entertaining, and I only have ONE complaint about the whole movie: "If you think you know pain, try wearing a corset".
ACK! Painful line... it stood out like a sore thumb. The rest of the script was pretty good, but that line just sucked.
Anyway, GO SEE THIS MOVIE! It's actually WORTH PAYING the inflated theater prices!!!

I saw it and got bored about an hour through the movie. The fight scenes were great at first, but it got old quickly.
"But why is the RUM gone?"
Heh.. It was a good movie to see, and I don't see many movies.

It was good but I found it to be a little repetitive. Off the island, on the ship, on the island then back to the ship.... repeat.
Saw it yesterday and I agree, it gets a
in my book. I'd read a review that said that Depp carried the movie, and he really does make it enjoyable. Not what you typically think of when you think "pirate", but likeably well done.
And yeah, the corset line should have seen the cutting room floor. It was painful to watch in all the previews, and 10x worse in the middle of the movie. I wonder if was George Lucas inspired

Pirates was a good movie. I liked the characters... I wish johnny depp played a bad guy. That would be fun.
Still...it felt pretty Hollywood. I think probably because it needed to appeal to the most general of audiences. Judging your responses...the filmmakers did well.

Agreed...it's not Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers, but it made for a great excuse to chow on big ol' bag of salty popcorn and a huge pop
am I insane or was there already a big long thread about this? I cant find it when I search. BEST MOVIE EVER or something.

You got that right. They're already planning a sequel.
I saw it last Friday and loved it. I like how they incorporated scenes from the Disneyland ride into the movie. (Prisoners trying to get the keys from the dog.) Captain Sparrow sailing to dock on his sinking boat was my favorite part.
Johnny played the gayest pirate I have ever seen. Not that I have seen many pirates but I have seen my share of gay guys

You thought so too? During the movie, I also kept secretly wishing that he were gay.
Typical, 18th September release date in Australia

I'm teaching my macaw to say "any port in a storm".
Even though the dubbing for the macaw's voice was stupidly poor.

Agree, the pirates should have been on the ship, on the island, then on a train, maybe a taxi, or better browsing MaCNN...
It's a PIRATES movie dude!!!
Great summer movie. This is a movie that knows how not to take itself too seriously. Some other movies think that a few misplaced one-liners can make up for an hour of over-the-top story and effects. Pirates is just fun, and doesn't try to be anything else.

I read in the NYTimes that Depp based his pirate character on a cross between Keith Richards and Pepe LePew.
Creative mix.

OMG -- he nailed his intentions. That is exactly how he behaves in the movie. Keeeeef!

Well duh. Some more sea adventures would have been nice and not going back to the same damn cave over and over!
I was quite pleasantly surprised considering it's based on a theme park ride. Not a brainiac movie but very fun and enjoyable. However, that "corset" line was a bit lame. What the h3ll, am I agreeing with Ca$h?!?!?!
Keira Knightley was better in Bend It Like Beckham, but then again her role in Pirates was pretty "restrictive". BTW, don't you think she kind of looks like a cross between Heather Graham and Natalie Portman?

i thought it was fun. but that's about it. The natalie portman lookalike was pleasant to look at it.
The repetitive nature started to get to me after a little while though. I had the unpleasant thought that the last fight would actually never end, due to the nature of the bad guys, and that we would end up in a mobius strip of pointless swordplay.
It probably didn't help that I saw it at a drive-in and it was getting damn cold at the end...

Johnny Depp is God.
"Pirates" was a damn fine movie, I have to say. Absolutely worth my money. It seemed even better after I got out of "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" last night. God, what a waste of time.
My advice to anyone who sees it: Wait through the end credits. There's a great little scene they added at the very end.
P.S. - Hey, 500 posts. Yay me.

Well, she does play one of the doubles for the princess in SW: Ep 1, so apparently some other people think she looks a bit like Portman too.

Anyways, I think this thread needs more Keira-is-cute posts to counteract all the Johnny-Depp-is-hot posts...
Too bad in the above pic she's jail-bait and looks like a vampire with a circus-trained makeup artist on LSD.

LOL exactly. That was my favorite line.
Impatiently waiting for the Enchanted Tiki Room movie.
The trailer seemed boring, but maybe i'll give it another look ...

Indeed, she was 12 when she landed the role of Queen Amidala's double. My my baby all grown up now at 18. Excellent movie. Johnny Depp was hilarious as the drunken pirate.
