...well, at least coming out day. The college I go to is referring to it as all week, but all the results on the web are saying coming out day.

I came out to my parents one year ago on Oct. 16. I wrote them a letter and left it on a desk at their house one Sunday night. I expected them to find it and call me when they found it. I waited and waited for what seemed like eternity in the most stressful state of mind. Finally on Wednesday night I couldn't take it and called them only to find out they hadn't found it yet!!!
I was talking to my Mom saying things like did you read the letter, it was on the desk, and then she opened it while I was on the phone. I included a book with the letter, and from the title she figured out what the letter's intent was. "Oh! okay...wow" was her response. I think it was just initial surprise because we talked for like three hours after that.

I am now completely open about my sexuality and have the support of my friends and family. Anyone else have a coming out story?
If you aren't out yet but are considering it, examine your carefully because some people can react in ways you wouldn't expect. Also, decide on the best way to handle it. I chose a letter with a book about parents' handling of a child's sexuality, but face-to-face or phone calls work too. Take care!!
