Mostly because I wanted an excuse to slip the word 'Japanese' in between every other word I used.
That, and I'm an anti-FMV kinda guy. They make the plot a little too restricted, changing an RPG in to a faux choose your own adventure movie. The trick is that you aren't really choosing your own adventure.
Another way to put it is that I don't like to play an FMV scavenger hunt. FMVs are fine if they facilitate the plot and aren't too jarringly different from the game. FMVs suck if they are the plot, and the game is what you do in between for distraction.
All just my opinion, though.
